Mosier and West 4A Team Win Jeff Mosier and the 4A West Indiana All-Star team beat the 4A East Indiana All-Start team 5-2. Jeff was awarded with the game's Mental Attitude Award. Congratulations Jeff, good luck at Purdue. Varsity finishes with 10-8-2 record The varsity beat Day School in the Sectional Semifinal 2-0. With much of the ball control and a solid grasp on the game, the Huskies moved onto the sectional finals against state champions Memorial. In the final, Braiden Acton put the Huskies up 1-0 with a strike from 25 yards. The Huskies really put the pressure on the Tigers. 5 minutes after the first goal, a Penalty Kick was called for a hand ball and the Tigers leveled the game. After a few fortuitous goals, a few well played through balls, and a "dodgy" penalty called from the center circle, the Tigers came out ahead 6-1. The huskies had a great season with a squad made up of primarily young talent. With the senior leadership of Jeff Mosier, they were able to end the season comparably to last years team (10-7-2). The 2008 season saw the Huskies lose 9 seniors (5 starters, 4 four-year starters). The Huskies have high hopes going into the 2010 season, with the need to replace senior forward and four year Varsity Letterman, Jeff Mosier. Varsity moves on through Bosse Bryant Dawson's brace, Jeff Mosier's assist and goal, and John Ohmberger's PK lift the Huskies past the Bulldogs in the sectional 4-0. Mosier selected for 4A West All-Star Team Senior Jeff Mosier was selected to play in the IHSAA 4A East vs. West All-Star game, to take place in November. Jeff, an outstanding senior, has lead the team in intercepts and steals this season. Congratulations to Jeff for representing North in a state competition. Coach Sturgeon gets six points against his old team The JV Huskies beat the Forest Park Rangers 2-1 in the first game on Saturday with goals by Ian Heldt (assisted by Ramsey Zeidan) and Ramsey Zeidan. The Varsity Huskies beat the Forest Park Rangers 1-0 in the second game on Sunday with a goal by Malcolm cook. Coach Sturgeon, having been the Forest Park Assistant Coach for the last three years, was really happy with the days events. Coach DeBaillie felt that both teams really showed the class they possess. JV and Varsity each share points with Henderson The JV huskies took the lead in the first half after Keivid Finn hit a rocket of a shot that came off the post and Will Walls cleaned it up with a beauty of a goal from 25 yards out. The Huskies continued to dominate the play for the remainder of the half but could not find the second goal. In the start of the second half, the Huskies appeared to be comfortable with their lead. The Henderson County Colonels took advantage of the lack of focus. The Colonels scored first off of a free kick in the first 10 minutes of the half. A few minutes later the Huskies had a defensive breakdown and the Colonels took the lead. The Colonels kept on pressing after their second but the Huskies pulled it back together. Dan Arthur then found the back of the net with a rifled 35 yard free kick to even up the score with 15 minutes remaining. The Huskies then pressed looking for the game-winner but ran out of time. The JV Huskies are now on a 4 game unbeaten streak and look to carry it into this weekend. The Varsity huskies took the field at 7:30 against the Colonels. Although the Huskies controlled most of the game, it was the Colonels that took the led after 20 minutes. One lapse on a free kick led to a tap in by Henderson County. The Huskies responded quickly with a goal of their own. Captain Bryant Dawson struck a well placed left footed shot from 35+ yards in the run of play. The Henderson keeper was left rooted to the ground. The Colonels took the lead again just before the half with another defensive lapse, the Huskies didn't recover quickly enough despite the delay from Clark, Patton, and Warfield. In the second half the Huskies showed they were in control of the game with two well built goals. The first by Braiden Acton was built from the back all the way through the team. The second was built from the midfield and finished by Malcolm Cook. The addition of Jeff Mosier as forward was beginning to have its impact with the two attacking midfielders. With 20 minutes left and all the possession it looked as though North would sail to victory. However the focus of the Varsity squad waned and the Colonels scored with just over 10 minutes left. The team was a little too goal hungry. Unfortunately the score would end 3-3, even though the Huskies deserved much more. The team recognizes the lack of focus for the last 15-20 minutes and hopes to learn from this mistake. Varsity suffer big loss after a good start The varsity team was down 2-1 at the half against the Castle Knights. The boys looked like they were challenging the game and were really beginning to play well together. The second half was another story, where the knights scored 6 unanswered, including a penalty kick. JV beat the Bears Two goals were enough to ensure a solid win by the Huskies. Goals by Cook and Kerr. JV beat the Wildcats Thanks in part to a Cook brace, the Huskies beat the Mater Dei Wildcats 2-1 on Tuesday. The team really came together in the later part of the game, controlling possession and ensuring the victory. This marks the first victory for the JV Huskies and is something the team can definitely build upon. Varsity lose to No. 1 Playing the best team in the state is always difficult. Memorial scored 5 in the first half and 3 in the second to secure an 8-0 victory. JV draws with the Warriors The JV team drew with the Harrison Warriors 0-0 on Wednesday. Varsity loses first city match Harrison came out early and put the Huskies behind 2-0 at the half. The Huskies challenged in the second half, but the goals never came. The boys played well and are starting to gel as a team. JV lets another get away In tonight's game we once again out possessed our opponent. Reitz found themselves on defense most of the game, but you wouldn't know it by seeing the result. Reitz put the ball in the back of the net in the 23rd minute when they took a free kick and the ball bounced off the crossbar down into the 18 where an unmarked Panther tucked the rebound away. That would be all Reitz would need to get the result. The North Huskies created numerous opportunites but all fell short. North outshot Reitz 19-5. North had 10 on frame where Reitz had just 3 (one being the game winner.) North's best opportunity came late in the second half when captain Josh Stofleth hit a direct kick from 20 yards out and Reitz's goalkeeper made a phenomenal diving save to keep his clean sheet alive. North has now outshot their last two opponets 36-10, but have only 1 goal to show for it. Coach Sturgeon said, "We are right there. We are a good team creating opportunities but we've been a bit unlucky. We are doing a great job of controlling the ball in the middle of the park. I believe the goals will start coming in bunches soon." The JV Huskies are now 0-1-1. JV loses the lead in the last 10 seconds, Draws 1-1 Justin Poirier put home a Finn setup from an Oskins through ball in the first half. The huskies held possession most of the game and had 17 shots to Centrals 5. One defensive lapse at the end of the game resulted in a tie between the North side rivals with 10 seconds left. Varsity improves to 4-1-1 with 2-1 win over Reitz (2-0-0 in the city) Mitchell Clark got his name on the score sheet in the 13th minute with a well taken goal from the corner of the 18. After conceding a goal in the first half from defensive mishaps, captain Bryant Dawson stepped up and knocked home the winner in the second half. John Ohmberger was a huge difference maker as he stopped breakaways in the second half. John was featured in an article by the courierpress (here).
