Dawson, Patton Make West All-Stars Seniors Bryant Dawson and David Patton were selected for the 2010 Indiana 4A West All-Stars team and will compete in Indianapolis against the 4A East All-Stars. Congratulations Bryant and David. Reserve Huskies Continue Form The JV Huskies put in a great second half performance against the Mater Dei Wildcats for a 3-0 win. The Huskies started the game with a 12th minute goal by Sam Daywalt, but did not really play in their true form until the second half. Second half goals were scored by Caleb Powers and Adam Jansson to seal the victory. Caleb found himself unexpectedly through the defense with the ball with just the keeper to beat. Adam put in a nicely driven ball from about 30 yards out that the keeper had no chance at. JV Revenges Varsity Loss The JV Huskies defeated the Harrison Warriors 1-0. Caleb Powers scored the goal from a free kick. The JV Huskies are now on a three game winning streak. Varsity Drops City Game The Huskies came out slow against the Harrison Warriors. Two first half goals proved too much to overcome in the second half. The Huskies did manage to get one goal back via Justin Poirier. Two Large Victories The Varsity team won against Evansville Reitz 6-1 and then against Princeton 10-0. In the Reitz game, Braiden Acton scored a Hat Trick and had two assists. Other goal scorers included Caleb Powers, Malcolm Cook, and Trevor Warfield. In the Princeton game, Malcolm Cook had a Hat Trick, with a brace from Josh Stofleth. Other goal scorers included Justin Poirier, Braiden Acton, Bryant Dawson, Josh Oskins, and Nick Wilson. JV Wins in the End When the Reserve team took on their north side rivals, the Central Bears, they didn't expect to leave the game until late. Ellis Acton opened the scoring with a strike in the first 10 minutes. Central capitalized on a slow defensive start from the Huskies with a goal just minutes later. Despite the Huskies enjoying lots of shots and possession, the game looked destined for a draw. Adam Jansson stepped up for the team and put the Huskies into the victory lane with just minutes left. Huskies Revenge Defeat Against South The Huskies finished the River City Classic with a 2-1 victory over Terre Haute South. The Huskies played well even without captain Bryant Dawson or defender Josh Oskins. North scored early on a Trevor Warfield goal. South brought the game level with a goal of their own. Braiden Acton put the Huskies back on top from a Malcolm Cook through ball. The Huskies were unfortunate to have another goal called back for a close offsides call. After the half, the Huskies controlled the tempo and kept their goal safe. The varsity squad improves to 4-1-0. The Huskies will finish out their 7 games in 10 days with a game Tuesday August 24th against Reitz and Thursday August 26th against Princeton. Varsity Splits Two The Huskies played Terre Haute North in the River City Classic. Terre Haute scored two goals on counterattacks, putting the Huskies down 2-0 with 30 minutes left. The Huskies shared the ball well and had over 25 shots, but were only to find net with one goal by captain Bryant Dawson. The Huskies took the first loss well, knowing they had played their best form yet. In the second match of the River City Classic, the Huskies took on Shaw Memorial. The Huskies continued their form and shared goals all around with 8 goals in 80 minutes by 7 different goal scorers. Meanwhile the defense kept things shored up in the back. Only one shot was taken by Shaw Memorial, which was saved by Swedish goalkeeper Adam Jansson. Reserve Gets First Win The JV Huskies beat Gibson Southern 1-0 at home. The Huskies started slow again and went into the halftime all even. In the second half captain Zach Bell and vice captain Matt Mills hooked up for a beautiful goal. Zach crossed from the right side and Matt headed the ball home from 12 yards out. The Huskies held the rest of the game comfortably. Varsity Beats North Side Rivals The Huskies beat the Central Bears with a brace from Trevor Warfield. Central put in a goal in the second to make it a close finish. The Huskies were happy to take the victory into the busy weekend. Varsity Seals First Game Victory The Varsity Huskies opened the official game season with a 6-0 win over the Mt. Vernon Wildcats. Goals were scored by Malcolm Cook (2), Trevor Warfield, Connor Clarke, Braiden Acton, and Justin Poirier. The Huskies have a hectic first part of the season with 7 games in 10 days. The Central Bears are next on Wednesday August 18 in the Second Annual Awareness Challenge for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. JV Finds Form Late The JV squad opened the season with 2-0 loss to the Castle Knights. The Knights scored two goals in the first half while the Huskies tried to find their step. In the second half, the Huskies showed they can keep up with the Knights. The Huskies took a lot out of the game and will move forward hoping to avoid another slow start. Varsity Starts with a Draw and a Win The Varsity squad played the Harrison Warriors to a 0-0 draw in the 20 minute Jamboree game. The Huskies put five shots on target, with Braiden Acton hitting the crossbar on a break away. After the short break, the Huskies took the field against the Mater Dei Wildcats. Josh Weinzapel opened the scoring for the Wildcats on header from a corner kick within the first 3 minutes. The Huskies picked themselves up and fought back. Malcolm Cook scored on a brilliant individual effort to even the game up. Then on an offsides kick, goalie John Ohmberger got an assist to Justin Poirier. Justin scored a meg on the Wildcats to seal the comeback. JV Starts Slow, Finishes Strong The Reserve Huskies started slow in the Jamboree. They let the Harrison Warriors get an early goal by giving the ball up in the back. After that the Huskies were wide awake. In the short 20 minute game, it looked like the Huskies would avenge the early goal. They held most of the possession and had the majority of opportunities in the rest of the game. Unfortunately the short scrimmage ended 1-0 Harrison. In the second game, the Huskies continued their later form against the Mater Dei Wildcats. The Huskies enjoyed possession and had little threat in the back. Caleb Powers opened the scoring books for the Huskies by dribbling through the Mater Dei defense and megging the goalie. Keivid Finn finished out the 20 minute scrimmage with a goal to complete off the victory. Varsity Draws Terre Haute Powers The Varsity squad drew Terre Haute South and Terre Haute North in a redraw for the River City Invitational. THS and THN are the predominant teams in the northwest of District 6. Both games provide each team a good look at potential post season opponents. Varsity Draws Familiar Foes The Varsity squad drew Terre Haute South for the River City Invitational. The two teams played in last years event, with the Huskies losing 1-0.
