The JV team took on the Central Bears for the first game of the season. JV looked pretty sharp and had many opportunities. Cody Seib put the Huskies up 1-0 early. The Huskies missed some good opportunities and were made to pay for it. The Bears were able to score and equalizer with 3 minutes left in the game. Coach Sturgeon said "we failed to put the game away and were punished for it".

North Knox Friday night the Huskies took on North Knox. The Huskies quickly jumped out to a 5-0 lead within 20 minutes. The Huskies used the opportunity to fine tune some things on the field. At the half the game was 8-0. In the second half the Huskies found the net 5 more times to set a school record for most goals. North Knox did find the net on a freak play in the back, making the final score 13 to 1, tying the record for largest victory with the 2008 12-0 game versus Bosse.

Terre Haute North During the heat of the day the Huskies battled with Terre Haute North. THN played a very defensive style on the Huskies, with 9 or 10 guys behind the ball most of the game. The Huskies were able to open the scoring in the first half through Braiden Acton. THN was biding it's time and attempting to counterattack through it's only player up top. Completely out of the blue, THN was able to capitalize on a deflected shot from 30 yards out. The game ended in a disappointing 1-1 tie despite the Huskies out shooting THN 3 to 1.

The varsity squad posted an 8-0 win over Mt Vernon. Three players had two goals against Mt Vernon, Braiden Acton, Jacob Frank, and Malcom Cook. Caleb Powers and Trevor Warfield added to the goal tally as well. Coach DeBaillie commented on the win: "We controlled the tempo of the game and were able to get a look at some of our younger players. All in all, a good start to season".
In the second game of the season the Huskies beat the Central Bears 3-1. Connor Clarke opened the scoring in the first half with a 25 yard strike. Central equalized against the run of play in the first half through senior Kyle Fettinger. After a shaky first half, the varsity squad was able to pull it together in the second half. In the second half North controlled the game and enjoyed much of the possession. Although the Huskies had 34 shots, the net eluded them for much of the game. Justin Poirier and Caleb Powers sealed off the victory despite the scoring frustrations. Coach DeBaillie commented: "We found a way to win, even when we had a rough day in front of the goal. We played as a team in the second half and were quite unfortunate to not have found the net more often." |

The 20-minute scrimmages provide our coaches a good opportunity to try various ideas out. Our JV team played well in the morning, beating Harrison 2-0 and drawing with Castle 0-0.
The Varsity squad took the field in the evening against the Memorial Tigers and the Reitz Panthers. The Varsity squad was the only team at the Evansville Varsity Jamboree to win both games, with a 1-0 victory in each game.
Coach DeBaillie commented on the day: "20 minutes is only a fraction of a game, so we don't tend to put a lot of weight into these results. However all the boys played well and we were happy with the progress we have made thus far."
